I
n this column I have often featured the strategic
plan artfully crafted by Conservancy leadership to
move us toward 2020. Now I want to describe the
wizard behind the curtain—Sue Corcoran—who
has led us as chairman for the past two years. Sue has served
as a board member for the last six years and has provided us
with the focus and expertise to become a highly respected
conservation organization. She undertakes every task with
energy and passion and has been both a guide and inspiration
to everyone involved with the Kiawah Conservancy. Sue has
an amazing ability to mobilize volunteers, finding the best
in everyone. Her greatest talent lies in her ability to create
consensus and the solidarity essential to building a better
organization
This spring, Sue’s tenure as chairman ends and Kevin
Cox will succeed to her position. Kevin brings a strong
background of leadership and experience to the position.
Both Sue and Kevin have given countless hours to the
enrichment of the Conservancy. We are so fortunate to have
had this team in place. Sue will remain our immediate past
chairman and her position of “advice provider” to the new
chairman will be invaluable as we move forward.
Sue, from all of us, our staff, supporters and community,
we say thank you for a job well done. You have so much to
be proud of as you look back and we have so much to be
thankful for in your guidance. We know you have put the
Conservancy first for much of your family time, so to Cork,
we say thank you too!
Kevin will provide insight into his vision for the
organization in his column in the next issue of Naturally
Kiawah. I hope you will support him as he assumes this very
important role.
As always, thank you for your continued support of our
natural environment. Let us hear from you! NK
