because the only plants that seemed to die were those that are not indigenous to our area. Amazingly within a week or two our greenery was back in full force and one would never have guessed at the havoc wreaked during Leon’s wrath. After two hours of shooting (my husband having long abandoned me), I returned to our warm and cozy home—happy in the knowledge that I’d seen and captured some of nature’s most beautiful moments. In a funny epilogue to the day’s outing, the photograph I posted on Facebook of my husband holding the flag on the Ocean Course’s 14th hole later turned up on ESPN’s coverage of the PGA golf tournament. The commentator talked about the winter storm in the South, and the probable reduced price for tee times on Kiawah that day. Winter on Kiawah—fortunately for us such severe storms are extremely rare and very beautiful. Consider yours truly grateful on both counts. NK WINTER/SPRING 2015 • VOLUME 33 9
