Make a Pine Cone Bird Feeder Did you know? You can make a big difference for the environment by giving wildlife a helping hand. These pine cone feeders are not only fun to make, but will help local birds in the winter, when food is hard to find. What you’ll need: One (or more) Large Pine Cone Peanut Butter* Bird Seed Plate Spoon or Dull Knife Ribbon or string Directions: Using the ribbon or string, tie a knot around the top of your pine cone. Leave at least two feet of extra length for hanging. Next, spread peanut butter all over your pine cone. Make sure to get a thick layer of peanut butter on it. Pour some bird seed into a plate and roll your peanut butter coated pine cone in it until it is well covered with seeds. For best results, refrigerate your finished feeder for at least one hour. Then, hang it on a branch or your porch and see who comes to visit. How many different types of birds visited your pine cone feeder? Draw a picture of your favorite bird? Did you see any animals other than birds eating from your pine cone feeder? Do not use if nut allergies are a concern. Replace peanut butter with shortening, lard or suet. * 63
