Kiawah's Turtle Program started in 1973 and continues today thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers.
Detailed records are kept of all nesting activities and a report is
prepared annually. In 2013 there were a record 402 sea turtle nests
laid on Kiawah!
SEA TURTLES DIG THE DARK
* Turn off flashlights on the beach and property lights visible
from the beach during the nesting season (May - October)
* Clean up trash you see on the beach.
* Be aware of and avod nesting and hatching turtles.
* Knock down sandcastles and fill in holes before leaving the beach each day.
