The steps used in this study are unique, involving the creation of translucent overlays that when added together revealed the most appropriate spaces for the reservation of land for recreation and conservation. This case study is followed by others, interspersed with chapters on values, man’s historical responses to values in different societies, reflections on building a self-sustaining space capsule, process and form and health measured in an urban setting. The case studies include one on planning for the expansion of urban growth into a major area northwest of the City of Baltimore, another on alternative futures for Staten Island and a series of individual studies.
