West Beach Sunrise
It is a pleasure to watch as the sun suddenly pops over the
horizon, revealing a variety of subtle colors and textures.

The blue sky and shimmering
water meet at the far, distant
horizon. The rising sun glistens
off the gently rolling surf where
the dolphins are playfully going
through their morning paces and
the pelicans are skillfully diving
for fish. From over the sand
dune comes a solo deer that
meanders to the water’s edge.
Footprints cover the sand, from
colossal human prints to the
most miniscule forms of shore
life. Yet for as far as I can see
in both directions, I’m sure I am
the only person on the face of
the earth! Welcome to daybreak
on Kiawah.
