Our family loves to ride bikes on
Kiawah and see who can spot the most
alligators. Occasionally, our reptilian
friends even visit us on our back lawn
to bask in the bright Kiawah sun.

I love to watch the family of deer that I often see
early in the morning on my way to work or late in
the afternoon hanging around the Sandcastle.

Our yard is a certified wildife habitat,
so we are pleased to host many
creatures, large and small. One
morning, I walked along a garden path
out to the Kiawah River and discovered
this newborn fawn nestled in the scrub.
It stayed perfectly still, even as I went
back to the house to fetch a camera,
and let me approach it, showing no fear
and making no attempt to run away.
Hours later, it remained but was gone
by dusk.
