: Our Legacy for Kiawah Island Frequent wildlife encounters are one of the most appealing pleasures of life on Kiawah Island. A wide spectrum of native plant and animal species call Kiawah home. Many migratory bird species visit the Island seasonally. Residents and visitors alike revel in the superb natural diversity and beauty of the Island. It is a unique place where native landscapes, wildlife and people coexist for the benefit of all, a place where wonderful memories are made. When it comes right down to it, those memories are built on the natural wonders here. It is really all about habitat. Plant and animal life only thrive in a balanced ecosystem such as Kiawah’s. It is our responsibility, as a community, to preserve the delicate balance that provides haven for our native plants, habitat for wildlife and the opportunity for residents and guests to enjoy the experiences this special place affords. The Kiawah Conservancy is committed to understanding the critical natural habitat needed to maintain a healthy, balanced and diverse population of native plants and animals at Kiawah Island. Its support of research, its educational forums, its community outreach, its land preservation and habitat enhancement programs are ways the Kiawah Conservancy protects the habitat of Kiawah. The Kiawah Conservancy is committed to: • preserving key Island habitat areas through property acquisition and acceptance of conservation easements; • providing the incentive, guidelines and support for the restoration and enhancement of developed properties; • conducting and supporting research that helps maintain healthy habitats and wildlife species; • identifying and closely monitoring threats to Kiawah Island’s flora and fauna and working with other Island entities to address those threats; • providing conservation focused educational opportunities for property owners, service providers and visitors; • partnering closely with Island organizations and businesses to foster common environmental values and a shared vision for Kiawah’s unique balance of nature and development. Enjoying this pristine environment is a rare privilege, yet it is not for us alone. The Kiawah Conservancy is committed to preserving and protecting the natural habitat of this Island for future generations. This is our “Legacy for Kiawah Island” and we invite you to be part of it! The future of Kiawah Island depends on you. Partner with the Kiawah Conservancy and protect Kiawah’s natural resources for future generations.
