AIMS TO CREATE A PUBLIC ATTRACTION IN
THE NEIGHBORHOOD.
Andezit plakalar kullanılırken yer yer patinato dokulu 10xserbest boylu
elemanlara yer verilmiş. Dış cephede elde edilen bu ayrımla, güneş
ışığının farklı saatlerde taş yüzeyler üzerinde ışık-gölge oyunlarının
deneyimlenmesi hedeflenmiş. Cephede oluşan yoğun Andezit hissini
kırmak için ise bazı yüzeyler dokulu sıva ile kaplanması öngörülmüş.
Ünalan Kültür ve Spor Merkezi projesinde tercih edilen formları, klasik
dönem Osmanlı yapılarında kullanılan mimari biçimlerin 21. yüzyılda
tercih edilen asimetrik varyasyonları olarak tanımlamak mümkün.
Proje, cami ve medrese yapıları başta olmak üzere klasik dönem
yapılarda görülen ‘kubbeli küp’ uygulamasının güncel bir yorumuna
yer veriyor. Kültür Merkezi ve Balo Salonu’nu barındıran birim için tıpkı
Osmanlı anıtsal yapılarında olduğu gibi ana kütleyi aşan ‘taçkapıvari’ bir ana giriş önerilirken, Eğitim ve Spor Merkezi biriminde
‘kubbeli küp’ mantığının izlerini sürmek mümkün. Tasarım ekibi bu
birimde klasik dönem yapılarında görülen baca, ışıklık gibi formları

cultural needs of the Ünalan neighborhood. The program
included exhibition rooms, multi-purpose rooms, meeting
halls, ballroom, gymnasium, workshop rooms, library,
mediateque and underground parking space.
In TeCe’s design, to achieve a public scale, the use of stone
cladding was a significant design element. Andesite, a local
gray basalt stone, was applied to the façades to achi eve
texture at a human scale while some surfaces were left
as bare plaster. This stone cladding was used in different
textures and geometries to be able to stress the volumetric
differences between the units. Larger sized matte surface
Andesite blocks were used for the design and in some
instances, smaller blocks with a brushed “patinato’’ texture
were implemented as a contrast. These variations in surface
textures were done to create different effects with sunlight.
To emphasize the Andesite stone on the façade, some
surfaces were left in textured plaster as a contrast.
It is possible to state that the morphological forms used
in Ünalan Culture Center are the 21th century asymmetric
abstract interpretations of the forms used in the classical
Ottoman age. The proposal presents a contemporary
interpretation of the ‘domed cube’ widely seen in the
mosques and madrasahs in Islamic architecture. A very
monumental entrance designed for the cultural center
and ballroom unit seems like a ‘portal’ similar to
