area approximately one kilometer long, parallel to the
Cairo Alexandria desert road. The project lies on the
periphery of Sodic West development and serves this
huge residential compound. Shahira Fahmy was also
responsible for the design of Algeria The Hill residential
complex that is a part of the Sodic West project.
Stone is the major material used in this project
together with water elements and landscaping units.
A local Egyptian marble, Emily Brown, is used in this
project because of its reasonable prices and high
availability. As the project is located in the desert, the
local stone was chosen due to its appropriate color
and texture. The marble provides good resistance to
desert conditions as well. The surrounding area around
the project consists of informal agricultural land on
the outskirts of Cairo that contrasts with the new
settlements and buildings. The architect offers a grid
system to bring the informal scheme of agricultural
land and existing buildings together. Shahira Fahmy
states that to enforce the grid concept, the axis of
the entrances were placed perpendicularly to the
