elements embedded into the landscape while reinforced concrete is used for
those that extend out into space. Unlike the walls, terraces and stairs in slate that
follow the natural slope of the topography, the 6 meter high canopy extensions
of the roof that project up and out into space contrasts with the building’s
downward movement. Moreover, the exposed concrete canopy that moves around
the rest of the building generates an autonomous geometry that is more spatial
then material. While the reinforced concrete is used to define space, stone is used
to define volumes and the form of the landscape. For example, the dark gray
basalt slabs melds in with the shallow pools in the semi-open spaces and with
green area in the outdoor space. These water elements that appears in sections
of the building act to move the mosque from the physical environment to a more
ambient, natural condition in line with the overall focus on material effects.
In terms of religious rites the Mosque uses only the basic aspects of Islamic
practice. There is no traditional ֖
