Konuk Evi, kesit – perspektif Guest House, section – perspective House with its 80cm thick natural soil ceiling is divided by two different courtyards to the north and south. The intervention of the access ramp was the only addition to the 60 hectares site in an architectural strategy that tries to negate the presence of archtecture. The third corral, the Preservation corral exists on an area of 580 m2 in an area undisturbed zone by the harsh sea winds. Vegetation unique to Milos, which is almost extinct, is planted in this zone. The fourth corral in the project, the Isolation corral, is accessed through a narrow path passing through the forest, and placed close to a small brook. This corral, the smallest and the most isolated corral among the others, is dedicated to the preservation of the surrounding vegetation. Overall despite the large size of the site and the numerous architectural interventions the architects have successfully worked with nature while designing with a strong architectural language built to last well into the future. Instead of relying on vernacular examples they have chosen to create their own local architectural language that is in response to the raw, rocky topography, ancient Cycladic pedigree and unique ecological condition. Their primitive naturalism is a measured and respectful response to the dramatic Aegean and Mediterranean natural setting which in many areas is quickly disappearing.
