Tasarımın sahip olduğu farklı kotlardaki teras ve avlular bu çok hareketli topografyaya yedirilecek. Eğimli arsa üzerine inşa edilecek olan binanın yol seviyesinden bakılarak gerçek boyutlarını görmek pek mümkün değil. Doğal zemine yedirildiği için yol kotundan ana kütle pek fazla görünmezken, önerilen yapının yamaca bakan kısımları kullanıcılarına şehrin panoromik görüntüsünü takdim edecek. İnşaat tamamlandığında yol kotundan sunulacak görüntü, taş kaplı yola bakan cephe ile göğe doğru yükselen kulenin tepe kısmından ibaret olacak. We imagine this landmark as a light up the mountain, seen from everywhere and, although modern and contemporary in its form, it is built from the very earth and stone of Palestine.” The A.M Qattan Foundation Building proposed site is on a high point in the hilly stone-terraced landscape of Ramallah. The proposal for the building consists of two primary elements, a linear volume with a glass and stone tower rising at its center. From the entrance side the volumes are embedded within the existing topography, allowing unobstructed views of the Ramallah skyline. When viewed from the fronting road on top of the hill, the actual height of the building is not visible. What visitors see from the road level are the stone surfaces of the exterior wall and the top part of the tower. The situation is reversed when viewed from the adjacent landscape as the building with its many levels and terraces is seen sloping down the hillside. It is a distinct landmark that can be perceived from various viewpoints in the city, the iconic “light” in stone that is the principal design strategy. The architectural program is based on the distribution of public and private spaces on a series of mixed outdoor and indoor levels. The public spaces and common facilities such as the art gallery, residence and parking space are placed within the dominant horizontal plinth. The other functions such as the library, storage/workshop areas, bookshop and the café are placed where
