avid Chipperfield Architects, başta 2009 yılında
tamamlanan Çağdaş Mimarlık Avrupa Ödülü –
2011 Mies Van der Rohe Ödülü’nün sahibi Berlin
Neues Museum restorasyon projesi olmak
üzere, dünyanın birçok kentinde tasarlayıp
uyguladıkları sanat müzesi ve galeri projeleriyle bu
alanda yetkin bir mimarlık ofisi olarak kabul görüyor.
Sanatın insanlara aktarıldığı bu binaların başarılı bir
şekilde tasarlanmasında şüphesiz mekan ve ışık, mimar
için önemli bir nokta. Sanat ve mimarlığın bir araya
geldiği bu zor süreçte Chipperfield, rasyonel ve detay
odaklı bir tutum sergilemeye devam ediyor.
David Chipperfield Architects’in Kengo Kuma, Dominque
Perrault ve Parisli X-TU gibi isimleri geride bırakarak 2012
yılı sonlarında Reims Güzel Sanatlar Müzesi’nin tasarımı
için düzenlenen proje yarışmasını kazanması sürpriz
olmadı. Chipperfield’ın mimariye karşı değişmeyen
zamanötesi yaklaşımı, Avrupa klasik gelenekerine
adanmış ve eşsiz tarihi değerlere sahip Reims kentinde
inşaa edilecek müze projesine çok iyi uydu. Manastır
olarak kullanılan Aziz Denis Sarayı’nda 1913'den beri
hizmet veren Reims Güzel Sanatlar Müzesi, Cranach ve
David gibi eski ustaların koleksiyonları ve 19. yüzyıla
tarihlenen sanat nesneleri ile tanınan bir müze.

D
avid Chipperfield Architects have become specialists in art museums
and galleries having completed a number of buildings in worldwide
in the past decade including their European Prize for Contemporary
Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award 2011 winning restoration of
Neues Museum in Berlin in 2009. The architects’ emphasis on space
and light has undoubtedly been a key factor in the success of these buildings
devoted to the display of art. Chipperfield is above all a detail oriented and
rational designer who appreciates the rigor required in the difficult process of
harmonizing art and architecture.
It was therefore no surprise when at the end of 2012 David Chipperfield
Architects won the competition to design the new Musée des Beaux-arts
in Reims, France beating out respected international names such as Kengo
Kuma, Dominque Perrault and X-TU of Paris. Chipperfield’s steady, timeless
approach to architecture is well suited to a Museum devoted to the European
classic tradition of art in a city with a distinct historical character. Located
in a section of the former abbatial palace of Saint Denis since 1913, the
