İsrail’in Heron bölgesindeki ocaklardan çıkartılıyor.
Doğada açık sarı-kırmızı tonlarda bulunan malzeme,
güneş ışınlarına karşı dayanıklılığıyla kurak
iklime sahip bölgede yüzyıllar boyunca kullanıldı.

Givat Ram district of Jerusalem. The topography of the site,
made up of three ridges has been used since the 1950s in
a three part way with a government precinct, a university
campus and a museum. One of the most important points
in Jerusalem the hilltops of Givat Ram are the site of the
Israeli Parliament ‘Knesset’, the Israel Museum, Ministry
of Finance, Ministry of Interior and the Hebrew University
of Jerusalem and many other important cultural and
educational institutions. According to the architects this
urban setting on the western part of the historic citadel of
Jerusalem was intended to “enhance the Library’s public
presence, accessibility and symbolic role within Israeli
culture, while rethinking the design of the library in the
digital age.” The placement of the National Library in the
center of government indicates the importance ascribed to
knowledge and information in the digital age for Israel.
Segal’s competition design for the National Library of Israel
is characterized by large stone clad surfaces on a series of
monolithic modular volumes flowing over the triangular
lot as artificial landscape topography. This design strategy
of the stone clad hybrid building/landscape model has
been popular in the last few years and featured in projects
recently published by Natura such as the Ordos Museum,
2011 by MAD (Natura, January-February 2012) and the Quinta
Do Vallado Winery and Hotel, 2011 by Francisco Vieira de
Campos (Natura May-June 2012). In Segal’s design this stone
topography is organized around four courtyards at the
entrance, southern, western and northern sides each with
their own individual functions, Public Areas, Education/
