Tasarım/Design: Mermer Aydınlatma Elemanları/Marble Lighting ILLUMINATED TEXTURES CONTEMPORARY LIGHTING FIXTURES MADE WITH MARBLE UTILIZE THE TRANSLUCENT QUALITIES OF THIS ANCIENT MATERIAL. L ight is one of the most important aspects of creating an atmosphere in any environment, yet it doesn’t receive the value it deserves in most public and private spaces. Moreover, natural stone which is being used in other areas for centuries is a fairly new material in lighting design. Natural stones prevalent in sculptures and decorative objects as well as architecture, are recently emerging in lighting design, thanks to today’s improved production methods. The use of marble in lighting design is even more meaningful when its natural patterns and textures are used to bring the design its decorative character. These designs enhance the inherent colors and patterns of the material through simple geometric forms. Throughout history, the most widely used methods for production of marble objects has been turning lathe and surface polishing. These traditional methods of production emerges as design choices in designs like ‘Quarry’ from Benjamin Hubert’s De La Espada collection and Noergaard-Kechayas’s ‘Material Pendant’ products that he created for Nevvvorks. These lighting fixtures feature the texture of marble as a natural pattern to bring out smooth forms. Meanwhile, computer controlled production methods that gained extreme popularity in the 21st century provide new opportunities for hard materials like marble to be used in lighting designs. CNC and computers may be terms nowadays used too frequently in design vocabulary, yet these methods not Lighthouse Established & Sons ve Venini için Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec’in tasarladığı aydınlatma, üfleme cam, beyaz Carrara ya da siyah Belçika mermeri, aluminyum ve halojen ışık kaynağından oluşuyor. Geleneksel yöntemlerle şekillendirilen Murano camı, mermer taban üzerinde bulunan aluminyum parça sayesinde havada asılıymışcasına duruyor. Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec’s idea was to light up a voluminous round glass structure that would be balanced on a delicate aluminium support. Drawing attention to the precariousness of the equilibrium the Bouroullecs wanted to present the vulnerability of the object. The base and the support are industrially made in opposition to the handblown glass which uses traditional artisan skills. 30 NATURA • TEMMUZ - AĞUSTOS 2013 / JULY - AUGUST 2013
