The National Paranormal Society is dedicated to assisting those in need of help dealing with all aspects of the paranormal, as well as offering a resource for investigators, researchers, spiritualist and all other individuals working within the paranormal field to call upon for education and knowledge sharing.

Statement

In keeping with the theme of the magazine, I wanted to focus on something that is so valuable in our field yet seems to be overlooked or not thoroughly done. What I’m referring to is due diligence with evidentiary submissions.

What is Due Diligence?

Due diligence is a legal term that refers to doing your background checks and research on something before committing to a contractual obligation. Merriam-Webster defines due diligence as “the care that a reasonable person exercises to avoid harm to other persons or their property; research and analysis of a company or organization done in preparation for a business transaction.” We apply due diligence in our field when it comes to our investigations and reviewing evidence captured either in pictures, in video, or in an audio recordings. As investigators and researchers we must first ask the question “Is there a logical explanation for this?” We need to ensure we look at every angle and rule out every possibility before assuming something is paranormal.

Why Do I Need It?

In order to push the Fringe Sciences forward we MUST ask every logical question and look for every logical answer. Blindly assuming something is paranormal before we take the time to do our research on it is irresponsible in this field. In order to submit solid proof of something we need to review our evidence to make sure it stands on its own. By
