Monthly Newsletter September 2018 NATAL NOMADS THE CLUB SYMBOL Upcoming Events 18 th October 2018 Natal Nomads next fixture@ ROYAL Our Club badge, a bell crossed by a golf club, is symbolic of the raison d'être of the 'NOMADS' - through golf, the remembrance of others. www.natalnomads.co.za It is printed in the renowned extract from the Meditations of John Donne (1573-1631): 'No man is an island entire of itself; Every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; And therefore, never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee.' DURBAN Golf Club Address: 7 Mitchell Cres, Greyville Phone: 031 309 1373 Special Presentation: 200 Game Badge – Ian Brewer CAPTAINS REPORT 30 Year tie – Des Cormack Greetings Nomads Our monthly game at Umkomaas was held on a rather overcast and slightly chilly day. I had visions of a repeat of our MECC game last year where more than half the field bailed as a result of the weather. Fortunately, not a drop of rain fell. I would like to extend my appreciation to Peter Toward, their Captain. Peter was an exceptional host and it is safe to assume in all my times of playing with the captain of the host club I have never experienced this level of hospitality. Nothing was too much trouble for Peter and the staff of Umkomaas…………hell, I even got my own VIP parking right outside the entrance. The course played very well, congratulations to all the winners on the day. I have no doubt that when the rains begin to fall in the near future Umkomaas will be looking wonderful. The game also incorporated the Goodwill Trophy between Current and Past Captains of Natal and Southern Natal. It is with great pleasure that I can report that the Trophy was convincingly won by Natal with an average of 32 points vs the 28.125 points of the Southern Natal Captains. Very well played Chaps……. we seem to be faring rather well in these events thus far, I am hoping it will bode well for the Bert Hunt Trophy when Nationals rolls around in March 2019. Speaking of which, Butch has recently sent out the entry forms and I think it is safe to assume that these spots will fill up very quickly as the Firethorn Nationals in Gauteng in 2019 is being touted as one of the best yet. If you are interested in going I would recommend that you don’t delay in getting your completed 10 Year Tie – Craig Smythe & Andre Conradie 5 Year Tie – Derek Airey INDUCTIONS: Trevor Lauderdale Resignation: Darren Clarke Applications received: Theo van Rensburg Mykel Addison Page 1 of 19
