antucket abounds with diverse recreational activities – tailored to all age groups and interests – throughout the year . A plethora of camps – featuring fun and life-enriching activities – meet the needs of tots , youth , teens , and adults . For over two decades , Murray Camp has been providing unforgettable summer experiences for children while highlighting the social , emotional , academic and physical aspects of the natural environment .
Camp Richard ’ s year-round camping venue – a mere three miles from the Steamship Dock – is utilized by both local and visiting Boy Scout and Cub Scout troops . Although the Camp does not run programs , per se , it does provide the necessary facilities and amenities for boys and young men to camp and delve into Nantucket ’ s rich history .
Island Activities
“ Learning by doing ” is the mantra of the Maria Mitchell Association . Their diverse camps showcase a wealth of hands-on science-oriented learning opportunities to engage children , young adults , adults and families . Nantucket ’ s diverse ecosystem provides a plein-air “ classroom ” to awaken student interest in marine science ,
natural science , astronomy , field research and environmental stewardship .
Nantucket Community School offers both day and extended day camp programs . Their Summer ACKventure Camps are dedicated to building strong kids and great memories via a variety of stimulating and life-enriching offerings such as camps devoted to the culinary arts , robotics – even mermaids !
At their stunning Seaview Farm Art Center studios in Wauwinet , Nantucket Island School of Design and the Arts ( NISDA ) provides opportunities for young artists , teens and families in an array of visual arts offerings – such as classes in alternate photography , sacred art painting , and smoke-fired garden sculptures – to unearth the latent creativity in all age groups .
For the budding “ fashionista ,” Cheryl Fudge runs a Fall Fashion Camp where eager students learn essential principles of clothing design and fashion by designing unique apparel and accessories transformed into creative couture by the humming sewing machines of staff instructors .
