Our 43rd annual Daffodil Festival Weekend promises to banish your winter “ doldrums ” as the island pays homage to a bold and brilliant bloom . From early April to mid-May , a plethora ( over three million !) of daffodils encompassing every hue , shape and size burst forth across the island , adorning roadsides , gardens , window boxes and more . This beloved Chamber-sponsored event is a jubilant homage to the advent of Spring , and features an Antique Car Parade & Tailgate Picnic , Children ’ s Beach Family Picnic , and more . Watch humans and hounds “ strut their stuff ” for coveted awards at the wacky and whimsical Daffy Hat and Daffy Dog Parades . Little tykes star in their own procession , decorating bikes and wheeled conveyances Daffy-style .

The Antique Car Parade ( the Festival ’ s central event ) showcases over 100 meticulously – and creatively – decorated vintage automobiles and motorcycles . Staging begins on Main Street at 9:30 AM ( take a “ selfie ” with your favorites and vote in the categories of Most Authentic , Best Decorated , People ’ s Choice & Best in Show ) and at noon , the venerable vehicles wind through Town and perambulate out to the charming village of ‘ Sconset for an al fresco Taligate Picnic . Pack a bountiful basket of brunch fare , and enjoy noshing with friends as you bask in the sun ’ s benevolent rays .
The Children ’ s Beach Family Picnic holds court from 1-3 PM in the Downtown area . Tote your blanket and picnic lunch , and enjoy a FREE concert from the Bandstand at this wonderful plein air “ mini-festival .” Face painting , balloon animals , storytelling , and FREE rides in the Nantucket Hotel ’ s antique fire truck round out the mix at this lively venue .
The annual Nantucket Garden Club Daffodil Show always attracts a crowd . There ’ s even a Daffodil 5K Race and a Used Book Sale hosted by the Atheneum . Satisfy your inner sleuth ( and vie for prizes !) by gathering a team and participating in the weekend-long Scavenger Hunt , with clues cleverly hidden throughout the Downtown . And don ’ t forget to stop by the Chamber office at 0 Main Street to pick up our Official Daffodil Calendar of Events and peruse limited edition Daffy merchandise .
