Nantucket ’ s unique location 30 miles at sea , as well as its pristine natural beauty , has made it a coveted destination for weddings , vow renewals , and corporate getaways . Although the island truly seems “ a world away ,” it is easily accessible by both plane and ferry . Nantucket Airport is a full-service facility , with direct routes from many major Northeast cities . Ferry services depart from Hyannis and are efficiently run by the Steamship Authority and Hy-Line Cruises .
At 14 miles long by 3 ½ miles wide , the island is quite walkable , although transportation is readily available via cabs , charter vans , and the “ WAVE ,” a convenient seasonal public shuttle bus . Booking passage for your car is truly an unnecessary expense , as parking is at a premium in the Downtown – particularly in high season – and traveling from one point to another is far less stressful by foot , bus , cab or bike .

Many couples opt to visit a year in advance to peruse venue and lodging options , as well as to meet with wedding planners and vendors . Caterers , florists , photographers , musicians , salons and day spas – and more – abound on island , and all are eager to share their expertise and assist in planning your wedding . You may wish to incorporate the island ’ s rich heritage and culture into your special day . Flower girls toting lightship baskets , a bouquet of brilliant blue hydrangeas carried by the bride , groomsmen clad in distinctive “ Nantucket Reds ” from Murray ’ s Toggery Shop , bridal photos with Brant Point Light as a signature backdrop ... all reflect the inimitable charm of an island wedding .

One of the island ’ s newest function facilities – open to the public since 2013 – is the palatial Nantucket Banquet & Conference Center which hosts private parties and weddings as well as corporate meetings and retreats . This impressive 5,000 square foot venue is one of Nantucket ’ s largest capacity function halls , accommodating up to 450 persons . Featuring a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen , wrap-around bar ( and portable bars !) and two major function rooms , it exudes classic , understated elegance . A convenient distance from both Town and ‘ Sconset , the Banquet and Conference Center boasts over 100 parking spaces as well as abundant outdoor space for tents .
