And so, you see, this small but glittering
island “jewel” set in the mighty blue Atlantic
is by no means a sleepy enclave. With its
myriad of offerings and activities that are
sure to satisfy every possible whim and
desire, we encourage – and implore you –
to go forth, like those intrepid discoverers of
yore and find your own special Nantucket!

stellar Boston Pops performance on Jetties
Beach in August – as well as church and
choral group presentations and classical
music assure world-class entertainment
throughout the year. A week-long Arts
Festival in autumn features studio tours,
lectures, films, theatre, poetry readings, and
even an Organ Crawl!
Last, but certainly not least, Nantucket is
a veritable “nirvana” for shoppers. Scores of
unique emporiums and boutiques – many
of which are small and independently
owned – display a cornucopia of wares
from jewelry, couture clothing, pottery, and
artwork, to local crafts such as scrimshaw,
carved quarterboards, Sailor’s Valentines,
and lightship baskets. Antique shops are
also prolific, with lively, high quality auctions
conducted throughout the year. The annual
summer NHA Antiques & Design Show under
the tent at Bartlett’s Farm is a particular
favorite, attracting a slew of vendors and
shoppers. And, if you’re seeking more
“eclectic” treasures donated by local homes
and estate sales – with very attractive prices –
plan to visit the Hospital Thrift Shop on
India Street.
