y journey as a writer has been
eventful, to say the least. Every
piece of paper became a place for
words. Words written to escape, words to
comfort, words meant to bring solace and
bridge pathways. I wrote my first poem
before I learned to ride a bicycle. Writing was
the therapy of choice that a little girl would
choose to save herself from her woes, way
before she knew that evil existed in the hearts
of men and women alike.
With my pen, I could craft make-believe
worlds that righted the wrongs done in my
present world. I could take all the thoughts
in my head and make them come to life. I
could color my world beautiful, and I tried for
many years. But because this is a journey,
many things that life handed me meant that
I didn’t always understand, and sometimes I
got in my own way while trying to figure it out.
As I continued my journey, my words would
