My Face Book newsfeed can bring some pretty interesting information . A video scrolled through that told of the benefits of drinking 96 ounces of water per day . I watched it , then shared that video to my “ wall ” and posted “ I ’ d like to do this challenge . Who ’ s with me ?” Over the course of the day , sixty-eight women commented that they were in .

Every day for four weeks straight , I posted an opening morning message of “ The Mermaid Challenge ” and my Face Book friends and a family member posted their daily results of “ made it ”, “ almost made it ” or “ I ’ ll do better tomorrow .” The combined effort was a wonderful thing . Then the challenge ended and I found myself falling back into my old habits . I would go days ,

Mission even weeks without drinking water . I would drink everything but water . And now that I didn ’ t have anyone holding me accountable , I struggled with trying to get in a simple 16 ounces every day . Strange , when I ’ d been throwing back 96 ounces for four straight weeks . How could that happen ?

One morning , I posted on my wall a second time that I would like to do the Mermaid Challenge again . When I checked the comments , a number of women stated that they had missed the group too . I wasn ’ t the only one who had an issue trying to do it on my own . One person suggested that we do a Face Book group because it ’ s hard to find that challenge post in the evening when it was time to put those daily results in . Done deal !
The benefits have proven to be amazing . Some have reported weight loss , improved digestive health , clearer skin , improved circulation , and joint pains that had eased tremendously . And here ’ s the biggest perk of all — four people in the group were taken off their diabetes medication . Mermaid Pat G ’ orge Walker , who is also a national bestselling author , tracked me down to call with the great news . Her A1C count went from 7.1 to 5.7 !! The doctor took her off the diabetes meds and a water pill because over the challenges , the numbers steadily became lower . She was ecstatic and rightfully so . Even I had danced around the prediabetic range for years and during the challenge my numbers strayed far away from the beginning of the danger zone .
