NAELPA Summer 2020 Newsletter 2020 edition

Letter from the President

Dear NAELPA colleagues,

As I reflect on my year as President of NAELPA, I am inspired by all we have accomplished together. The organization has increased its membership, delivered six webinars, hosted an annual conference, and increased our involvement at the national level as a participant of the national EL Roundtable, a group of EL organizations and advocates who meet quarterly to discuss EL related topics.

Before the world was dramatically altered by the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Association of Bilingual Education (NABE), along with support from other sponsors, served as host of NAELPA’s annual conference on February 24-25, 2020, in Las Vegas, NV. For those that attended, thank you for your support and we hope you found it inspiring, collaborative, and helpful to your work. For those who were unable to attend, read all about the conference on page 7. The NAELPA board is already planning for the 2021 Conference and excited to share that we will be meeting as part of the NABE pre-conference institutes. We hope you will join us on January 18-19, 2021, in Houston, Texas!

As we end the school year in very interesting times, I would like to applaud all of your actions and efforts to ensure equitable access for our nation’s ELs during remote learning caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In light of these difficult times, I am inspired by all the educators across the country working tirelessly and diligently to address challenges and identify opportunities through innovative practices and solutions – you are all amazing!

I wish you a healthy and successful end of school year and wish you all the best.

Be well,

Morgan Cox

NAELPA President
