WHAT TO WEAR Campus administrators have discretion on all matters concerning interpretation of the student dress code, including matters not specifically covered in the student dress code. ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS SHIRTS • Must be a short or long sleeved polo style knit with collar • Any solid color polo style is allowed • No logo on the shirt • Solid color turtle neck or long sleeved shirt may be worn under polo style shirt Students are expected to be neat, well groomed, and appropriately dressed for school. The Nacogdoches Independent School District believes an individual’s dress and grooming habits directly affect his/her behavior, attitude and performance. Therefore, the intent of the NISD dress code is to bring out the very best in the student body because student pride is a key factor to academic success. PANTS • Must be solid color khaki, navy or black (twill like material) • Must fit securely at the waist and properly hemmed or cuffed (“sagging” not allowed) • No denim jeans, sweatpants, jogging pants or warm-ups • Pants that have belt loops must be worn with a belt • No stretch knit, silky knit, spandex or denim SHORTS / SKORTS • Must be solid color khaki, navy or black (twill like material) • Must fit securely at the waist and properly hemmed or cuffed (“sagging” not allowed) • Must be knee length or longer • No cut-offs, stretch knit, silky knit, spandex or denim SKIRTS / JUMPERS • Must be worn with a standardized shirt • Must be solid color khaki, navy or black (twill like material) • May be straight, pleated, or full • Must be knee length or longer • No stretch knit, silky knit, spandex or denim SHOES • Must be closed toe and closed heel • Any color tennis shoes (laced or velcro) are allowed • No heelies or Crocs style shoes MIDDLE SCHOOLS / HIGH SCHOOL COATS / JACKETS • Any color may be worn to school • Inappropriate language or symbols are not allowed SWEATERS / SWEATSHIRTS / HOODIES • May be worn over standardized dress • Must be a solid color with no logos SHIRTS ACCESSORIES AND GENERAL RULES • May not be longer than fingertips when arms are extended • Spaghettie straps on shirts, blouses and dresses are not permitted. Straps on girls’ shirts, blouses, and dresses must be at least 3 inches in width. Covering spaghetti straps with a jacket is not allowed. • Girls’ shirts, blouses and dresses must not reveal cleavage. Revealing, “see-through”, and/or extremely tight-fitting clothing are not allowed. Covering an inappropriate shirt or blouse with a jacket is not allowed. • Boys’ shirts must have sleeves. Basketball-type jerseys may be worn with an appropriate undershirt with sleeves. PANTS, SHORTS, SKIRTS AND DRESSES • Sagging pants that fall below the waist area are not permitted. • Tears, cuts, rips, and/or holes 3 inches or more above the knee are not allowed if it exposes the skin or undergarment. • Shorts and pants must be made of cotton, cotton polyester, khaki, or blue jean material. Shorts and pants made of spandex, Lycra, nylon, satin, etc. are not allowed. Pajama bottoms or warm-ups of any kind are not allowed.
