recognized in over 30 countries worldwide
including Singapore and the USA. The passport
is linked to a biometric chip inserted under the
pet’s skin, that can be scanned at check-in.
Additional documentation on vaccinations is
incorporated into the passport. Service animals,
emotional support animals or psychiatric service
animals still need to have correct documentation
to fly, and in many cases are allowed to travel in
the passenger cabin with their human.
So with passport in paw, who can get upgraded
to cabin class and who is stuck in the baggage
compartment? It really depends on the airline
you choose. Below is a list some of the airlines
worldwide and their ability to except pets to
travel along with humans in the passenger cabin.
Additionally there is a shorter list of airlines that
allow for the transport of pets as check baggage
or as cargo. The list, while long is not exhaustive,
and is not always as it seems. Some airlines do
not allow pets on certain flights, while others have
geographic or time of year restrictions for travel.
Your best bet is to check with your travel agent
or directly airline for the specific details on your
chosen itinerary and the type of pet that you’re
traveling with.
Some airlines will not accept the transport as
accompanied baggage of breeds of dogs and cats
‘brachycephalic’, commonly called ‘short-nosed’

the individual airlines rules.
Just because your ticket is on XYZ airline does
not mean it is a match to your dream trip with
your pet. Code Share flights may not be a s
understanding as the ‘real deal’ airline…eg the
listed airline. In some cases airlines advertise
they fly a route when in reality it is another airline
operating that route. In this case you are on a
codeshare airline may not accept your pet. You
will need to make sure that your flights are on the
Mê Thú Cưng
airline that you expect and not a codeshare.
Some airlines only accept pets on particular
flights. In many cases this is for only domestic
or only international flights. In the case of
Vietnam Airlines they do not accept pets in the
passenger cabin for domestic flights, but may for
international flights depending on the destination.
