Fonde d’Or Nature
& Historical Park
The Fonde d’Or Nature and Historical Park is located in Mabouya Valley on the
island’s east coast. A guided tour of this unique park will give you an insight
into the island’s history. Ruins of the sugar trade remains and reminders of the
first inhabitants, the Amerindians, are also evident. A short hike will lead you to
Fond d’Or Beach which is a perfect venue for sunbathing and relaxing, but not
for swimming as the Atlantic water here is rough, which makes swimming a risky
activity, so it is prohibited. The scenic beach and forest combination is a very pretty
picture which makes it an attractive venue for events such as the world renowned
Jazz Festival. Visitors are encouraged to explore this historical area, with its
mangrove forest and vibrant eco-system.
