Spellman McLaughlin Home A house of historical significance, the Spellman McLaughlin Home sits resplendently at 396 Creek, Cayman Brac. Built in 1930, Mr. Spellman supervised the house’s construction which occurred over a four-year period. Its impressive gable roof and cozy, inviting veranda are viewed admirably even today, and its walls tell many a story. Stoically surviving many hurricanes due to its sturdy construct, one hurricane especially remains the most notable of all, and endears this house to the residents of Cayman Brac. Over 130 people found safe shelter here during the hurricane of 1932. A true survivor, the house was kept in pristine condition by Mr. Spellman’s daughter, Mrs. Rivers, who lived here with her family until 2011. In 1995, the home was honoured by the Cayman Island’s National Trust with an Award of Distinction for the Preservation of Historic Places. Photo Credit: Spellman McLaughlin Home
