J’OUVERT
J’Ouvert is the name given to the early morning portion of Trinidad’s world famous carnival. The
carnival celebration usually coincides with the Roman Catholic calendar, taking place just before
the Lenten season begins. Weeks of pre-carnival parties take place but one of the highlights of
the entire experience is the Monday morning Jouvert. Revelers cover themselves in paint, grease
or even mud and dance through the streets to the sounds of soca music. It is an electrifying
experience which you should witness at least once in your lifetime. It is also an experience you
will never forget - it’s mesmerizing!
