Best places to stay in St. Martin St Martin’s National Nature Reserve Located in the north-eastern part of the island, The National Nature Reserve covers an expanse of 3,060 hectares. Its beaches, cliffs, forests and mangroves are home to a variety of seabirds, herons and iguanas. There are also raccoons, mongoose and other mammals that live around the mangroves and feed on the crustaceans and fish that live in salt ponds. You’ll also find sea turtles coming to the beaches to lay their eggs. While visitors to this area are not discouraged, they are reminded to respect the rules and not destroy the natural environment by littering, hunting, fishing and removing plant life. They are also forbidden from using jet skis in the area so as not to disturb the peace. Photographs © St. Martin National Reserve Hotel L’Esplanade © Hotel L’Esplanade
