Camagüey The city of Camagüey, in Cuba’s largest province, Camagüey is where you’ll find earthenware jars a-plenty. In years gone by, these jars were used to collect rain water for drinking. Today, they adorn the city’s parks and open spaces - a very pretty sight. The city of Camagüey was built in 1528 and was one of the first Cuban villages. Small alleys, art-parlour lined streets and visitors casually taking a stroll are the things you can expect to see here. It is said the many small alleys were purposely built as a maze in an effort to confuse then bandits and pirate attackers in the 1500’s so they would get lost, during their pillage, which they certainly did and as some visitors still do during their strolls today.
