Saba Sea and Learn
Visit Saba any time in the month of October to be part of the annual Sea & Learn on Saba event, and specific to their 2017 program, the Saba After Dark project. Pick up a paint brush and be part of the large mural project, dive in the dark with fluorescence experts or hike in the cloud forest to spy a bat pollinating a night-blooming cactus. There’s plenty to do both day and night. It’s fun; it’s free; and it’s for everyone! Some planned activities for the month include a night hike to listen to Saba’s night symphony, diving excursions to find pederson shrimp and sea turtles, tracking the invasive sea grass beds, and banana identification treks through Saba’s lush forests. Every other night of October will host an Evening Presentation with their experts at various restaurants throughout the island. Don’t miss out on their dinner specials! You can be part of the first bi-visual mural, part of the Saba After Dark Program, that showcases Saba’s nature while reminding us how mercurial the sea and forest can be when the lights go out. The mural will be a collaborative effort of the local youth and adult community, scientists, and tourists. Muralist Joan Bourque will take the lead. Monitor www.seaandlearn.org for this years’ guest scientists, planned activities and field projects. Don’t forget to follow them on Facebook at: facebook.com/seaandlearn/ Stay tuned to learn more about their new program, Create & Learn, coming this May 2018 to Saba. Want to learn a new skill or art form? Join them in May to partake in creative classes for painting, Saban basket weaving, Saba lace tutorials, glass bead crafting, and more!
