This is a celebration of the anniversary of
Christopher Columbus’ arrival in the Americas
on October 12, 1492.
OCTOBER
National Plantain Festival
This is an annual festival in the town of
Corozal celebrating the love of plantains
with crafts, paintings, agricultural products,
exhibitions, and sale of plantain dishes.
NOVEMBER
Festival of Puerto Rican Music
This is an annual celebration of the country’s
traditional music such as Plena which
originated in the city of Ponce and Bomba, a
musical mixture of African, Spanish and Taino
cultures.
NOVEMBER 19
Puerto Rico Discovery Day
Celebrated island-wide, this day marks the
arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1493,
when it is said on his second voyage, he came
ashore at the northwestern municipality of
Aguadilla in Puerto Rico.

Jayuya Indian Festival
The town of Jayuya celebrates the culture and
tradition of the island’s original inhabitants,
the Taíno Indians, and their music, food, and
games. Over100 artisans exhibit and sell their
products.
DECEMBER
Las Mañanitas
A religious procession honouring the city’s
patron saint, Our Lady of Guadalupe.
