About Sandra’s Haiti ...
“My Haiti is mysterious, full of contrast, high emotions and an
abundance of creativity. It is everywhere - on the buses, the
gambling houses, the voodoo temples and the way women
mix the prints of their second-hand clothing to perfection. It
is in our music, that makes you slow dance or explode.
Haiti is for the adventurous traveler. The traveler who can
still see beauty in extreme poverty and admire the full range
of unrestricted imagination. Our food is spicy and in full
evolution, thanks to a new generation of Chefs who have not
lost sight of what makes, us.
I love most Haitian food:
Black Mushroom Chicken with Cashew Nut
Poisson Gros Sel (red snapper in salt and lemon broth)
Pitimi (millet with coconut milk and spices)
My favorite dessert is Blanc Manger (coconut flan)
For breakfast, a good Aka100 (corn porridge) with sugarcane
syrup is ideal.
Those are just a few Haitian dishes to tempt your taste buds.
The traveller must visit the Citadelle in Cap Haitian, the Village
de Nouailles (Croix des Bouquets) - it is the village where all
the cut metal is done. I am a fan of waterfalls and we have the
Saut du Baril, Saut d’eau (mystic place) Bassin zim, Ile a Vache,
Jacmel (the center of papier mache art) and so much to show.
Some places are so breathtaking but it requires some hiking
to get there.”
