After many months of researching and sampling
the country’s vegan fare for my e-book guide,
“Vegan in Santo Domingo,” I share with you a few
of my favorite spots for dining meatless in this
dynamic city.
Visitors from abroad will certainly be curious when some of Bambú’s carne de hongo arrives at their table.
This chewy, mushroom-based meat substitute is featured in most of the eatery’s sandwiches, pastas and
salads, and is so convincing it makes even die-hard meat-eaters take pause. To taste it in its purest form, order
the Plato de Meli, a green salad topped with a very generous portion of the mushroom-based meat, fried
until crispy on the edges.
At Bambú, a delicious mushroom meat is featured in most dishes,
including in the plato de Meli salad.
