PLACES OF INTEREST in Cuba

The Malecon
Built between 1901 and 1902, the Malecon is
a 7km promenade that stretches from Habana
Vieja to Vedado. The mix of architectural
styles which include Neo Moorish and Art
Deco, painted in yellows and pastel pinks,
present photographers with delightful shots
especially at dusk. Here visitors can relax and
watch as lovers pass hand in hand or children
play on the sea wall as fishermen cast their
lines.

Parque Historico Militar,
Havana
Encompassing two of Havana’s fortresses (El
Morro and the largest, most expensive fortress
ever built by the Spanish, Fortaleza de San
Carlos de la Cabana), this site today houses
museums, but has served many purposes in
the past. During the Batista regime it was a
military prison but later became Che Guevara’s
headquarters. Ascending to the top of the fort,
visitors are afforded magnificent views of the
city and the ocean.
