Take a Trip to the Twin Islands | Mélange Travel & Lifestyle Magazine

When you think of the
word doubles, the
first thing that may
come to mind is tennis. Not for
me. For me, doubles is a handful

of deliciousness that greeted
me when I visited the island of
Trinidad that had me thinking,
‘I could marry a doubles man. I
could marry a doubles man and
eat this succulent morsel for the
rest of my life.’
That is Trinidad- a tiny morsel
of goodness. One half of the
twin island republic of Trinidad
and Tobago, Trinidad pulsates
with the rhythm of carnival
and the steel pan. This rhythm
flows through the speech, dance
and music of the people in this
beautiful island.

The beauty of Trinidad is that
it is not the typical tourist
destination, and that is what
makes it so attractive. There is
not a large tourist market, so the
experience you get when you
go to Trinidad is not so much
the hotel experience, but the
experience of what the island

itself has to offer, and it has a
lot. If you visit Trinidad, you
are coming to a vibrant piece of
the Caribbean, and should be
ready to immerse yourself into
it. Only then will you be able to
appreciate the true aesthetics of
Trinidad. From walking from
booth to booth on the Savannah
and sampling the tastes of the
country to ‘lyming’ or hanging
out on a street in front of a bar,
you come to feel like you are a
part of that place. You feel at
home. That is Trinidad.
That, however, is not all.
Trinidad has some beautiful
beaches, the most popular of
which is Maracas Bay. Getting to
Maracas Bay is an adventure in
itself. Take a drive on Trinidad’s
north coast, through lush flora
and fauna, with views to be
envied. And then, when you do
get to Maracas Bay, you are in for
a treat.
