Dey say de Caribbean is quite ah place,
dat’s laidback, relaxed and ah slower pace.
Well dey might be right, ah bet you it’s true,
It could be de cool breeze, or de sky dat’s so blue.
What’s de reason you ask, why are tings dat way?
Let me tell you de story, when we down by de bay.
The
Caribbean
Escape
Written in Grenadian dialect
When you rise in de morning, don’t go by ah clock,
most boys go and dre-vey
until it gets dark.
Dey spend all day wid dey padners and dem,
conversating over women
and de latest riddim.
And when dey done, by de rum shop dey go
To drink rum, play cards and recite calypso.
But, de Caribbean is not just for dat,
You could stroll by de market and see what dey got.
Dey have breadfruit and yams and ripe-plantain,
and an interesting fruit dey call christophen.
You could buy cloves, nutmeg and all kinds of spice
It’s de best place to get it, to make your cake nice.
Now, don’t get me started on baking and ting
When you buy potato pudding, bring back de tin.
Ah remember de food me Tanti would make, de oil
down,
stew chicken and the famous black cake.
But, ah ain’t going to tell you de biggest secret,
Just jump on ah plane, go experience it.
Just go, relax, and stay awhile,
Be sure to wave at de natives with ah friendly smile.
Check out de lush greenness, de sand and de sea
Explore coral reefs and its natural beauty.
And when you come back be sure to bring me,
Some spices, some rum and local lambi.
But, don’t worry mon, take your time.
You can decide not go after ah finish de rhyme,
And if you don’t believe what I’m saying is true,
You could give me de money; I’ll enjoy it for two.
