Temple in the Sea
Returning safely from India after WW11, Siewdass Sadhu was determined to build a Temple thanking
God for his survival. Unable to get permission to build the temple on any land, he began to build
it on land he reclaimed from the sea, placing rocks by hand in order to do so. Although working
tirelessly for 25 years, Sadhu was unable to complete the temple before his death in 1971. However,
the government completed it in 1994 in celebration of the island’s 150th Indian Arrival day.
