Karil Knight, sound engineer
Karil is an educator by profession
but his love of music has been
with him since an early age, both
playing and listening. He takes a
keen interest in the community and
is active in a number of charitable
activities. Soca is his favourite genre
but he enjoys a variety of music.
Murphy Charles, percussion
He has always loved music and enjoyed being
around Burning Flames band before he got the
opportunity to perform with Dread and the
Baldhead. His musical influences are Michael Jackson,
Burning Flames, Barrington Levi and Bob Marley. He
enjoys many types of music but prefers performing
reggae. Having the opportunity to share a stage with
two former world class cricketers-turned musicians,
along with the rest of the Spirited family he finds
most rewarding.
Most of the musicians in the band were
playing together long before Spirited was
formed in 2009. Many were former members
of Dread & The Baldhead band for many
years until the lead singer decided he
wanted to take a hiatus and do something
different. The others wanted to continue,
so the decision was made to form another
band. With the word ‘Spirited’ inscribed on
the windscreen of Dave’s vehicle, the band’s
2nd guitarist at the time suggested that
would be a good name for them, especially
so because their spirits needed a boost as
they embarked on this new musical journey
together.
The Spirited Band then emerged on the
scene in 2009 with verve, entertaining
appreciative crowds with their robust
renditions of Reggae, Soca and Calypso.
You can now find them performing across
the island at bars, hotels, private functions,
weddings, fetes and at international events
such as Antigua Sailing Week’s Reggae in the
Park where they have been support band
for KyMani Marley and this year Tarrus Riley.
They also travel to other islands and the UK.
The Spirited Band encourages visitors to
check out Antigua’s many beautiful beaches,
historical sites and join in some of the island’s
annual events such as Sailing Week and
Carnival. Plus of course, enjoy the delicious
local food, drinks and music that will be
easily found around the island.
