Diving
places of interest
Statia is an excellent diving location with world-class, almost virgin dive sites. There is a lot to see
around the island’s coast where at least 200 wrecks are known to exist plus its pristine coral reef.
Quill/Boven National Park
In 1998, the Quill/Boven National Park became the first national park in the Netherlands Antilles. The
park covers an area of 3.4km 2 and includes a dormant volcano which has a diversity of flora and fauna
on its outer slopes, its rim and in its crater. The steep inner slopes offer red-necked pigeons, purple-
throated Carib, Antillean Hummingbirds and many other species of birds all living in a welcoming
habitat.
