Submitted by: Gilbert Laudat
Wadadli Day, the island’s single largest
display of indigenous culture, will be held on
Saturday August 04, 2018 at Victoria Park alias
Botanical Gardens. This spectacular event
has been in existence for the past 16 years
and was established to showcase Antigua’s
Heritage.
At this event, a wide variety of some of
the very best, in Art and Craft, Visual Arts,
Culinary Arts and Dance will be showcased as
they celebrate what makes Antigua unique.
The organisers expect the usual turn out of
hundreds of Antiguans and Barbudans to
witness many of the enjoyable traditions of
years gone by. The activity is organised by the
Cultural Development Division.
Wadadli Day is more than just a fun activity.
It is an effort to ensure that many of the
island’s rich traditions are kept alive and well
for generations to come. Further, patrons can
expect the usual fun mix of exhibition items
and fun activities during the event, which
runs from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Traditional dishes like funji and saltfish, cha
cha dumplings, ducanna and a variety of
local drinks will be available. The creativity of
designers in the art and craft industry will also
be on full display.
Entertainment will be provided by local
calypsonians, as well as the Party Monarch
and Road March King. There will be face-
painting and the bounce-castle for the
children, with cultural performances from
traditional cultural performers. Other
presentations will come from Steel Bands.
One of Antigua’s favourite bands, Factory, will
bring the curtains down on the activities.
