Saba is the smallest
special municipality of the
Netherlands.

SIZE 1,824 (2013) 13 sq. kilometers In 1493 the island was sighted
by Christopher Columbus.
OFFICIAL LANGUAGE CAPITAL CITY Dutch but English is widely spoken The Bottom In 1632 English sailors,
shipwrecked, landed on Saba.
CURRENCY AVERAGE TEMPERATURE In 1640, the Dutch West Indian
Company brought people over
to Saba in order to colonize
the island. They were already
settled on the neighbouring
island of St. Eustatius.

the Dutch being chased off
the island by the British pirate,
Henry Morgan.
For the next 200 years, the
island was controlled at various
times by the Dutch, Spanish,
French and English.

remains a municipality of The
Netherlands today.
