La Soufriere Hike, Basse-Terre
As it has erupted eight times since 1660, La Grande Soufrière is known as an active volcano which is
also the highest peak in the Lesser Antilles. It usually take hikers two hours to ascend the Chemin des
Dames trail which, on a clear day will offer them great panoramic views. Among other things hikers
will see is the triple waterfall and lakes formed in craters, surrounded by lush hillside.
Plage de Grande Anse,
Basse Terre
Plage de Grande Anse is located near
Deshaies on the northeastern coast of
Basse-Terre. Because of a steep drop
in the sea floor close to the shore, this
beach is not really suitable for children
to swim, but, the kilometer long
stretch of golden sand and shady trees
is an ideal place for strolling. Many
visitors also rent a kayak to explore the
mangrove-fringed lagoon behind the
beach.
