places of interest Kalinago Barana Autê This is a facility developed in the Kalinago Territory to showcase the culture and tradition of the Kalinago people. The name means “ Carib Village by the Sea”. The Kalinago people are the indigenous people of the Caribbean. According to archeological findings, they have been occupying the Caribbean archipelago for more than six thousand years. Hot Pools, Spas & Springs Although the island is only 763 sq. kms in size, it has no less than nine dormant volcanoes, making Dominica home to the world’s highest concentration of dormant volcanoes. The underground heat is not just evident at its Boiling Lake, as hot springs and sulfur springs are scattered throughout the island. There are even some “hot spas” in the surrounding sea.
