Fort Amsterdam
places of interest
Once the seat of power in the Netherlands Antilles, Fort Amsterdam was built at the end of
Sint Annabaai Channel, on the point, at the mouth of the harbor. Today, as well as being the
Governor’s Palace, the fort also contains a complex which is home to shops and restaurants.
Queen Juliana Bridge, Willemstad
The Queen Juliana Bridge in Willemstad overlooks not only Willemstad but also St. Anna Bay. The
bridge, at 185 feet, is one of the tallest bridges in the world and is certainly the tallest bridge in the
Caribbean. The bridge is worth visiting even though, currently, the observation platform is closed
to pedestrians.
