La Finca Vigía, San Francisco de Paula
Home of Ernest Hemingway
“in all my travels, I’ve found Finca Vigía the best place I have ever seen, to write.” Today, visitors to
Finca Vigia can witness what inspired Earnest Hemmingway to write those words when they visit
the house, now a museum, featuring the author’s original furniture and his over 9,000 books. It is
perhaps easy to see why he loved it so much with its view over the city and the shade from the
trees, plus of course the pool which is just two minutes’ walk away.
Sport
Fishing
Cuba is a popular island for Sport Fishing (tag
and release) which takes place in designated
rivers and lakes. It is done in ways that ensure
that marine ecosystem is protected.
In certain areas such as Salinas de Brito in
the Matanzas province, although fishing
takes place all year, only six fishermen are
allowed to fish per day. Fishing guides and
flat-bottomed lever-propelled boats can be
hired.
Las Tunas province provides Spinning, Fly
and Trolling all year for Ladyfish, Cubera,
Snapper and Barracuda. Cayo Coco in the
Ciego de Ávila province offers Fly Fishing
and Spinning opportunities for Bonefish,
Pacific, Harvestfish, Ladyfish, Cubera, Tarpon
and Snapper. The season runs from May 1 to
September 30.
