Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve PlaceS of Interest Turneffe Islands Atoll Consisting of over 200 islands surrounding a lagoon, Turneffe Islands Atoll is a paradise for both anglers and divers alike. Most of the atoll’s lodges cater to fishermen and divers, plus visitors come from nearby cayes and Belize City on day trips. Seascapes on the atoll consist of a variety of lagoons, creeks and crystalline flats. The shimmering clear coral waters of the atoll act as a nursery for a wide variety of fish including bonefish, trunkfish, snapper and grouper. The higher elevation of the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve offers visitors a respite from the warmer climate at lower altitudes and also a break from the mosquitos. Some of the highlights which visitors can enjoy are Five Sister Falls where water cascades from five falls into a beautiful pool, and the Rio On Cave and Nature Trail where a river runs through the cave once used as a Maya burial site.
