Haiti is an interesting country with, unfortunately,
many sad stories, however it is a lovely place with
a rich cultural history.
Of all the Caribbean countries, Haiti is perhaps the
most prolific in the visual arts. This can be subtly
observed and appreciated while driving around
the capital Port-au-Prince - even their public
transportation bears testimony to that aspect of
their culture - they are colourful!

Haiti was once a place where its architecture
told a story of its rich history. Now, most of these
beautiful structures lie in various states of ruin,
post-earthquake and other natural disasters.
Nevertheless, they can still be admired. One such
building, still striking a regal pose, is the ruins of
Notre Dame Cathedral which is breath-taking,
even after its destruction. It is a sad reminder of
the 2010 deadly earthquake which claimed many
lives, but the bits of its grand structure which
remains, gives one a glimpse of what was once a
magnificent architectural masterpiece.
Amidst the heart break and destruction over
the years, Haiti stands proud and resilient. It
was, after all, the first all-black republic in the
world and also the first country in the Western
hemisphere to abolish slavery completely. It is
again slowly regaining its foothold in the travel
world of sunshine-seekers. Its powdery-white
sand beaches beckon. Its busy urban streets
invite you to appreciate and partake of its vendor-
offerings. Its citizens, undaunted and optimistic,
bid you welcome and urge you to stay, just a while
longer, to savour their hospitality.
Haiti is open for business, so, head on over and tell
us about it:
